MADDSA Minutes July 8, 2004

I.        DD Coordinator’s Report: Sandra Butts

A.     Staff updates/changes

1.       June - 7 develo dis; Mary Burt, Arlene Zanders, Georgia Suliz, Reggie Dantzler, Arlene Voelz, Kathy Schultz, LeNora Washington

2.       July - Jill Bitten, Tom Shultz, Peter Stamm - also looking at children’s area and family support program.

3.       submit items of importance to supervisors

B.      Reduction in workdays: NOT too many concerns came in programs

C.      Budget 2005 active: not able to share final decisions yet; Geri Lyday may host meeting if she wishes to share

D.      Grant for crisis services being looked at (proposal includes $100,000 5 yr. period system focus)

1.       state closures & # of behavioral professional support a lot for children’s areas: also addresses adults “systems capacity” and respite site and resources to expand support systems in our areas.  Focus on this has been in works for 7-8 years.

2.       County’s collaborating: Milwaukee and Waukesha looking for letters of support

3.       Draft of what they are seeking to do (handout); need letters July 12 & 13, 2004.  Sorry for short notice (fax 289-8570 letter addressed to Disability Services: Sandra Butts) MADDSA voted and endorsed & Perry to send letter

 

II.      General Issues

A.     Aging discussion this time/Birth-3 next meeting

B.      No August meeting for MADDSA

C.      RFW: grassroots July 21 re: state KIP rate increase              Goodwill 6055 location, 272-7159 fax, e-mail stateateincrease@mcfi.net

D.      Peter Stan: SLO foundation brick for signing as he retires

E.       ARC: Racine September 24 & 25 Marriot (save day)

F.       Add on aging section to out routine agenda? Raised    Bob*

 

A.     Decision to sponsor October conference - Tom Nowak - October 21: Conference: Zoofari Caregiver Recognition (Awards & Speakers); request $1500 for keynote speaker

Recognition for MADDSA to donate - hoping for news/media coverage; asking (motion) $750 (one month of membership dues)

                Questions raised: Are we financially supporting other items this year?  How much? 

                Voted: all in favor: Tom Nowak will take care of sending funds

 

III.    Treasurer’s Report - Tom Nowak - $3400.54 in treasury - $750 donation, 47.50 paid to website

 

IV.    Reports

A.     Milwaukee Training Initiative: Kate Wilson

1.       80.00 Michael Small - drop to $70

2.       2005 conference to discuss Tues. 7/13

3.       Usually off in July, resume August

B.      Southern WI Regional Training Group: Martha McGraw - no report at this time

C.      Transition Committee: All ? - no school at this time

D.      Transit Committee Cheri Bruch (Esser)

1.       more good vs. Bad month of June

2.       consistent repeated concern” “drop off with non-opened program/no staff” - letter to be sent to request attention by TPAC committee to address

3.       Update at TPAC

a.       budgets submitted 0% increase, asked to submit  - 5% - 10% also (mentioned 2005 increase $350) - due to budget: talk of limiting area of service some people will be cut.

b.       still working on NCA and door policy; sounds like more chances will be given.  Request to Rock re: proposal

c.       Taxi service has received 2 vans w/wheelchair access but only being used for ICARE and other HMO.  T-19 and Medical Provider  Tendercare Transport  933-0924; another Medicare transport provider has come forward: Prestige Care Transport 265-8781

d.       Lawsuit update: only released one part of what the reason - have/did they look fairly at the less/under dog business: there was a # and sited portion.  (Did they look at a minority, disabled, etc. company?)

4.       Discussion shot down: can it be not around holiday.  Every other month on a Friday - non holiday days: Plan that will be created - hoping to include residential, include future plan with Geri Lyday

a.       Question to Sandra Butts: Early August trying to set up discussion; Rep’s should come: Recognition to Service Providers who stepped up to the challenge: Residential caregivers and serving needs, work programs that stayed open, St. Ann’s picked up financial cost to their individuals.

E.       Special Guest: Amy Ambrose: Milwaukee Aging Consortium

1.       Network of service providers to older individuals in Milwaukee area.  Connecting route to service to older individuals - all inclusive. Provay information to connect services.  Public policy and education re: aging.  Caregiver advocates for workforce (potential in transportation)

a.       Washington Park Senior Center same days as MADDSA dates 1:30 PM              Mental Health Services today

1.       3:00 PM will be asking Family Care questions on fairness and service updates

2.       July 30 - St. John’s home - Public policy that surrounds; * areas coming up when primary caretaker ages, what happens? (will discuss July 30); Amy Ambrose: how to contact her and get more information - UWM Cunningham Hall rm. 441, P.O. F.       People Can’t Wait/Advocacy

1.       Waiting list 3rd meeting  early 2005 litigator expected                                                  Almstead, Medicaid, Mission                                                                                          (state-wide to attack issue of not getting service in a prompt manner to meet their needs)

2.       Special Events Committee: needs members; ARC is contact - voting assist/area

3.       Subminimal wage in next 30 days?
