MADDSA Meeting March 18, 2004
I.                    DD Coordinator’s Report – Sandra Butts

A.  Proceeding for long term case management contracts

1.   MCFI (DD developmental Handicap), Kindcare (DWD physical handicap) – accepted

2.   CCS Board Meeting notice came out late after they met and odd time

3.   April will transfer some cases from County to Private contracts/authorization not yet set into place

4.   August expanding with existing contractors – Goodwill 24 applications and took a long time to get through, Planning council assisted

B.   Transportation support

1.   Goodwill transition and different recommendations for added support.  Broad look at needs/support

2.   (60 individ.) Transit Plus – utilized – EXCESSIVE RIDES

a.       April – effective – tickets only get certain amount and that shall be it to get a handle on the over users

b.      They have been going too many above and beyond the cost allowed on their service plans

c.       Letter went out March 17, 2004.  Affects about 60-80 people

d.      Need to get use to carry tickets – plan for smooth flow with challenged individuals (leaving home may not be bad but plan with day services how tickets will be utilized getting home)

e.       Can transit tickets be sold at more outlets/community stations

 

II.                 General Issues

C.  Sandra Butts: Award for closing the Institutions/Relocation

D.  Tax exemption jeopardy (HUD APTs) exempt through 2005

E.   Congratulations for County Executive Forum participants.  Great turn out for disabilities; Cards and questions regarding transportation

F.   MCFI building coming

G.  RSA – regional meeting – Health Care Ins.

H.  UWM – Fall Prevention for Older Adults

I.    Ranch Com Services – New Elderly trainings with dual diagnosis – just approved by state; late spring/summer will be offering it out

J.    People Can’t Wait Special Events Committee: report

1.   accessibility for polls (35 out of 305 ready) – a lot of work to do before ready

2.   grants for Transit Plus rides for voting needs – must call ahead to Bridget Bannon (278-3938) – Office for Person with Disabilities

3.   Grant/donation – Verizon Phone for a bank of phones – volunteers with lists to get them in to vote on the day needed

4.   Option of Verizon Phones dropped off for your agency to volunteer phone bank but must return phones

III.               Treasurer’s Report – Tom Nowak

T.   Southeastern WI – Martha DeGraw

1.   March 30 – Independence (Victimization Rights) Self Advocates: 9AM – Noon, Racine Public Works Building,       $10 – deadline tomorrow, call Martha (262)878-2411 ex. 2315; Flyer with minutes

2.   March 25 Thursday – next meeting

3.   Scholarship $ available for education – Bob Glowacki

4.   need to hook Self Advocates with training funds – how can we get them aware (Scholarship Committee, Ride assistance)

5.   Sandra points out scholarships are best to give back to direct care staff

6.   Committee Ride/Support – Chris Westerfield (302-0902 ex. 119) – if interested in committee or ideas

U.  Transition Committee – Sandra

1.   Upcoming in Kohler WI – April Mid – employment/work transition to Adult Services; attendance may already be booked for hotels but could drive down to attend

2.   Tables were set up last Saturday; Transition – Education Legislation; school/curriculum planning (70 attended); Teachers and counselors

3.   MPS recreation committee – Special Olympics – how to provide more to individuals who have left system and on wait list; more push for parental info – reduced phy ed $ for special needs

V.  Transit Committee – Cheri Esser

1.   forms will go again with minutes – essential to utilize them – explained that they go to the people who matter and people who utilize them have been getting better results and calls back

2.   Goes to persons with disabilities who get to speak and address TPAC

3.   We are attending TPAC and this has been informational and we will continue to share important news

a.       snow/weather – property owners are responsible

b.      malls and large location – Bradley Center – designated areas for safety and sanity

c.       safety manuals/regulations

d.      safety updates for staff and education

e.       complaints/recognition – same people are using them, but finally recognitions = complains vs Jan – a lot of late items with transition from Transit/Laidlaw
